January 14th, 2018 – Colorado’s health insurance open enrollment for 2018 closed on January 12th. Under many circumstances, open enrollment is the only time you can change individual and family plans during the year. That is NOT expected to change in 2018.
However, f you had an individual health insurance plan that’s no longer offered in 2018, you may still be eligible to get new health insurance through a Special Enrollment period, if you enroll within 60 days from December 31st, 2017. Get a Free Quote.
Outside of Open Enrollment, Coloradans with certain life situation changes may become eligible to get health insurance through a Special Enrollment Period. A Special Enrollment Period is a time outside of open enrollment in which you can get coverage due to a Qualifying Event.
Also worth noting is that President Trump’s new tax reform law still has IRS tax penalties for the 2018 tax year if you don’t have health insurance. It is not until the 2019 tax year that the individual health insurance mandate will end.
