May 17th, 2024 – Forbes evaluated Affordable Care Act (ACA) compliant health insurance companies across America for small business owners and three insurance companies stood out: Kaiser Permanente, Blue Cross Blue Shield and UnitedHealthcare.
Forbes measured 84 data points looking at everything from complaints filed with the Division of Insurance, to depth of plan offerings, quality assurance, size of deductibles on Silver metal tier plans, breadth of network tops, metal tier offerings and more. Kaiser and Blue Cross Blue Shield both boasted 5 star ratings.
Kaiser Permanente received a 5 star rating for quality ratings, low average deductibles on Silver plans and lower plan costs. Kaiser has an integrated service model which often results in fewer claims handing issues.
Blue Cross Blue Shield also had a 5 star rating with getting top marks for it’s huge national provider network, excellent quality ratings and lower than average Silver plan deductibles. Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield is the operating unit for Blue Cross Blue Shield in Colorado.
UnitedHealthcare rounded out the top 3 insurance companies with an excellent 4.5 star rating. UnitedHealthcare had excellent health plan quality ratings, lower than average complaints, good quality assurance ratings and a large national provider network.
