February 4th, 2011 – To the surprise of few, this week Senate Democrats voted down the Republicans attempt to repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act or PPACA.
The PPACA, sometimes called “ObamaCare” or Health Care Reform, was signed into law by President Obama in March of 2010. The Senate vote to defeat the bill was 51-47 and fell along party lines.
As a result of this defeat, the Republican’s bill to repeal Health Care Reform is effectively dead. This was not unexpected, as the Republican effort faced certain defeat and was largely symbolic.
According to a recent report, while 58 percent of Americans favor repealing the health care reform law, only 41 percent of those polled believe it is possible. To view a larger image of the timeline of the major provisions of the PPACA Health Care Reform Law, click on the image above.
